elegant cut belladonna delphiniums
Beautiful and daint, these blue belles make a simple yet stunning statement
With airy blooms resembling azure butterflies, Belladonna delphiniums are enchanting in the garden or displayed in simple glass bottles. Easier to grow than their statelier relatives, they dislike acid soils and adore cool, moist summers.
Their spires of blooms open from the bottom, so they can be picked when the top half is still in bud. Cut the stems at an angle and immediately place them in water. With hollow stems, they are heavy drinkers and don’t do well in floral foam. Use floral preservative and replenish the water daily.
**Tip:** If you need to lift them out of the water to arrange, put your thumb over the stem’s end to prevent water from leaking out.
