Fresh hellebore bouquet

Lush hellebores brave the winters to bloom in early spring. Here's how to bring this gorgeous flower indoors

Bravely emerging in early spring, hellebores with their nodding blooms make a sweet posy in a clear glass tumbler or small jug. Harvest your hellebores in the early morning.

Within an hour, trim a bit off the stems and immediately plunge the stem ends into hot water containing a floral preservative for about 15 seconds. Then put the flowers up to their necks in cool water for a few hours or overnight before arranging. With fully hydrated stems, they will last about a week, maybe longer if you keep them cool at night. **Tip:** Look for hellebores such as the ‘Lady’ hybrids that have more upward or outward facing blooms so you can fully admire their delicate interiors.
