Rose hall of fame
We asked five of the country’s top rosarians to name their favourite beauties—a real challenge, for sure. Here are their hard-thought choices
**1**. **‘Abraham Darby’** One of David Austin’s wonderful English roses, ‘Abraham Darby’ is extremely beautiful—I love the colour as well as its fruity fragrance. This rose does not get mildew in my garden and blooms through the summer. Zone 5.—*Lynn Wood, Cedar Hollow Rose Farm, Lumby, BC*
**2**. **‘J.F. Quadra’** The best red climber for cold climates (to Zone 3), this Explorer rose has very double blooms with a nice light fragrance. New growth comes out deep burgundy, and the foliage stays clean. It is a vigorous but refined plant, needing little pruning.*—Peggy-anne Pineau, Heirloom Roses, Halifax*
**3**. **‘Snow Pavement’** (‘Schneekoppe’) This rugosa selection is a dense mounding plant with large white flowers infused with light lavender. It has a superb fragrance, blooms all season and makes a wonderful hedge or specimen. Zone 3.—*Robert Osborne, Corn Hill Nursery, corn hill, NB*
**4**. **‘Windmill’** A modern shrub rose with great pizzazz, this beauty has single white flowers with mauve-pink edges and a unique twist to its petals. A repeat bloomer that is radiant all summer, it’s hardy to Zone 5.—*John Vanderkruk, Hortico Inc., Waterdown, ON*
**5**. **‘Fellowship’** (also called ‘Living Easy’) A must-have rose for every garden in Zone 6 and warmer is this floribunda from the U.K. With its stunning colour, vigour and disease-resistance, it out-flowers, outgrows and outperforms any competitors. Its only equal is its soft yellow sibling called ‘Easy Going’.—*Brad Jalbert, Select Roses, Langley, BC*
