**1. Be neglectful:** “Good teak should last forever. You don’t have to do anything to maintain it and can leave it outside all year long.” **2. Just say no to teak oil:** “It promotes mould and will only make the wood go black and slimy.” **3. Seal it if you must:** “Teak will weather unless you want to use a water-based sealer, which is like suntan lotion for teak—all it does is prevent it from going grey.” **4. Smooth it out:** “If the grain raises a bit, use a fine sandpaper and wipe it gently across the wood as though you were wiping it with a cloth.”
