One experiment Deacon tried was a hedge of ‘Riversii’ purple beech because this tree responds so well to training. Unfortunately, most of the plants didn’t make it through the first winter. He planted the surviving four together at the end of the wedge where they’re doing just fine and will eventually become a handsome clipped element.
