Rambunctious is the best word to describe the large-scale borders that Audrey Glover has created on a century-old farm in Kensington, just east of Summerside, in PEI. Billowing masses of colourful perennials are punctuated with flowering shrubs, annuals and artifacts such as an old hayfork (test-ament to the land’s earlier history). One massive border in this Zone 5 garden, alight with late summer’s gold, bronze and russet, stretches 90 feet in length and up to 30 feet in width, so Glover has her work cut out. This fearless gardener says she likes wrestling with beautiful thugs such as tansy and has no time for fussy plants. Here are some of her hints for successful king-size beds:
