**Built from old** barn planks and vintage windows, my little greenhouse
is a cherished wedding gift from my husband, Kevin Zembik. Seven years of wear and tear, however, had turned our “love shack” into a chaotic place stuffed with pots and fertilizers. Then a poignant but unwanted reminder of its origins broke through the floorboards: a very invasive passion vine. Something had to be done. Never mind its appearance and dysfunction, my greenhouse had also become an all-inclusive resort for spiders of all sizes.
So over one week, we completely emptied out the space, washed it down, and began transforming it back into a happy working place to pot—which, I think, every gardener needs (lest we have another reason to procrastinate getting seed ready).
I stayed true to the salvage look—it suits my organic gardening style—but added simple, eco-friendly ways to get organized, and freshened it up with a burst of my happy colour (orange). Now, I’ve fallen in love all over again with my rejuvenated little greenhouse. Spiders are still welcome, but they must wipe their feet!
