the great pumpkins

The jack-o’-lantern has always been a favourite Halloween symbol, and now we’ve given this ominous luminary a whole new sophisticated look. Our seven projects—everything from a formal centrepiece to a glamorous grouping—offer an elegant bent to the spookiest of Halloween scenes. Before carving your masterpiece, take a boo at our pumpkin prep below

##The dotted line## **Time:** 1 hour each
**Materials:** Marker, cordless drill, drill bits in various sizes
**How-to:** Prep your pumpkin. Create unique designs, marking the spots to drill. Drill holes in the pumpkin (drill all the same-sized holes first, then move on to the next size). ##Pumpkin Prep## Once you’ve picked the perfect pumpkin, follow these easy steps before carving. * Use a sharp, thin knife to cut a large opening in the bottom of your pumpkin. Scrape out the pulp and seeds with a metal spoon. * If using a template, print it out (see pumpkin templates), tape it to the pumpkin, and, using a pointed tool, pierce holes following the pattern on the template. * After carving, insert a candle or a battery-operated light source (try Coghlan’s LED micro lantern).
