New and bold plant selections

Kick pots and borders up a notch with lucious new versions of old favourites

By Karen York

**‘Shockwave’ petunia** (*Petunia*) Catch the latest wave in Ball Horticultural’s series of cascading, sun-loving petunias that bloom all summer. ‘Shockwave’ has smaller flowers but more of them, in shades of ivory, purple (shown here) and pink with darker veins. Bred for weather tolerance, these plants bounce back after rain, instead of resembling soggy Kleenex as many petunias do. And they’re remarkably self-cleaning—no sticky-fingered deadheading needed. **Height: 8 to 10 inches. Spread: 2 to 3 feet.** Photo courtesy provenwinners.com
