New Colour-Changing Gems

Hot horticultural chameleons make some surprising changes

By Karen York

**‘Tiramisu’ coralbells** (*Heuchera villosa* ‘Tiramisu’) The name is Italian but this yummy hybrid coralbells actually comes from France. You might expect a dusting of chocolate, but its leaves start out yellow, shaded and veined with red. As summer progresses, they turn chartreuse with a silvery sheen (a pretty foil for its little spires of cream flowers). Fall brings a return to red with a chartreuse trim. Growing in a tidy eight- to 10-inch mound, ‘Tiramisu’ makes a delicious highlight for any border edge. Part shade. **Zone 4.** Photo courtesy perennialresource.com
