**‘Beni Kaze’ Japanese forest grass** (*Hakonechloa macra* ‘Beni Kaze’) A gorgeous new form of Japanese forest grass, ‘Beni Kaze’ (which translates as ‘Red Wind’) starts the season as a 10- to 12-inch-tall cascade of bright green leaves. But over summer and into fall, the foliage becomes increasingly suffused with scarlet. Fabulous by a pond (or in containers), it prefers rich, humusy, moist but well-draining soil. Shade/part shade. **Zone 5.**
