New Colour-Changing Gems

Hot horticultural chameleons make some surprising changes

By Karen York

**‘Dream Catcher’ beautybush** (*Kolkwitzia amabilis* ‘Dream Catcher’) There’s no fading into the background once the masses of pale pink flowers are done for this stunning beautybush. It forms a six- to eight-foot fountain of arching branches clothed in glowing gold-chartreuse leaves with flaming tips. In fall, it turns a dazzling golden orange. Give it some protection from hot afternoon sun and prune right after flowering. Sun/part shade. **Zone 4.** Photo courtesy provenwinners.com
