New decking design trends

Design and build a deck that feels like a true extension of your home's style

Decks have come a long way since the rectangular, paint-peeling slabs of days past. Besides the variety of stunning new decking materials from which to choose, more homeowners are asking for design elements that make a deck a true indoor extension. Here are a few of the popular decking design trends. ## Faking it For a long-lasting wood look, homeowners are increasingly willing to pay three times the price of pressure-treated wood for synthetic and recycled decking. Most forms of this decking come from recycled plastics and/or wood products to form a wood-polymer composite. The appearance is very realistic with embossed deep wood grain and in some cases, a brushed surface for a raised wood look. Moisture and insect problems are virtually non-existent with synthetic decking—no more preservative treating, staining or sealing! This decking option is gaining popularity, and is carried in most major building supply stores in Canada. _(Photo courtesy of Trex Company, Inc.)_
