‘Charlotte’ Glamini gladiolus (Gladiolus) As delicious as French-vanilla ice cream, this pint-sized beauty is one of a new series of dwarf gladioli that appeared in a breeder’s test garden in the Netherlands. Reaching a petite 20 inches, they still boast full-sized flowers in smashing colours (‘Eva’ is pink and violet, ‘Zoe’ peach and yellow, ‘Christopher’ white and purple, and ‘Emily’ rose and red). So sturdy they need no staking, they’ll work equally well in containers and borders, given rich soil and full sun. Glad tidings indeed! Plant some bulbs every second week in early spring for the longest display. Like all gladioli and other tender summer-blooming bulbs, they can be lifted in fall and stored over winter ready for a glorious encore next year.
