It may have taken the owners years to find the property of their dreams, but when they discovered this densely forested site in 1999, it was as near perfect as they come. It was in the precise area the couple had targeted during a long, 10-year search. It had the requisite south-facing view they’d held out for, over the treetops toward the distant mountains of Vermont. And at 145 acres, it afforded the couple (who both grew up in Montreal and, as children, summered nearby) the privacy they desired. Yet the property was not without its challenges, particularly for the owner, a seasoned gardener whose plans for the place began taking shape even before the couple launched into building the large stone and log house they hoped would act as a fulcrum for their grown family and friends.
**Backed by the splendid view, a fountain ringed with a kitchen herb garden offers both sound and scent.**
