Shrubs and trees that offer something in all four seasons are garden gold. With their colour, form and texture, they make the most of their space, adding richness, dimension and plenty of bang for the buck. Here are six seasonal standouts to give your garden the Midas touch.
## Eastern redbud (Cercis canadensis)
Spreading tree, often multi-stemmed, growing up to 30 feet. Sun or part shade. Zone 5.
**Spring:** Clusters of small magenta, pink or white blooms.
**Summer:** Large heart-shaped leaves (green, purple or, rarely, variegated).
**Fall:** Golden fall foliage.
**Winter:** Dark grey bark; elegant branching pattern.
