Tranquil Garden

This beautiful garden is a sanctuary only steps away from the busy everyday

The house was designed 11 years ago by Vancouver architect James Cheng, and is one of the most modern on the street. The homeowner chose Cheng because his work is highly influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright, whose organic architecture designs were influenced by all things Japanese. So it’s not surprising that when the homeowner decided to renovate the garden three years ago, she wanted it to complement the house’s clean lines and reflect the simplicity of Japanese design. The task was undertaken by Vancouver landscape architect Donna Chomichuk, who has visited many gardens in Japan and was eager to implement some of those principles. **A huge red Japanese maple is easily seen from the glass-sided dining room extension that seems to float over the pond.**
